Dreams matter, marks don’t!

The tenth and twelfth results were declared recently, creating a frenzy amongst parents and students. But seven years after passing my matriculation, I often wonder “do marks really matter?”

Or to rephrase, “do marks matters more than dreams?”

Because where I’m standing today, I wish I had secured lesser marks than I did. I wish I had lost the game of numbers, maybe then I would have fought for my dreams and won the game of life.

Only then I wouldn’t have been suppressed by the dreams and ambitions of the family.

The piece of paper, the so called “result” on which we rely on, to flaunt our “intelligence” actually pushes us ( some of us) in a pit from which we can’t ever resurface.
The pit of expectations.
The pit of dreams of your parents and your elders.

Don’t even think that getting the desired marks is the end of your efforts. It’s just the beginning of a life you may not will to chose.

It is this “result” that has compelled many artists to become engineers, and doctors. It is this “result” that has compelled many writers to become a banker.

This result not only makes dreams, but also kills a lot of dreams just after they are conceived.

Therefore, if you have just passed your tenth and twelfth, just wait a moment, before you chose any stream.

Think hard. Think again. Think until your head hurts.

Close your eyes and see yourself doing what you are choosing now.

Are you happy?

If not, think till you see yourself happy.

Don’t chose something just because your parents could or couldn’t chose it. Don’t chose something just because your marks are good enough. Don’t chose something just because your parents think you can do it.

Chose something because you want to chose it.

Chose your dream no matter what it takes to chose it.

Remember, dreams come with a cost. Dreams have to be fought for. They aren’t served on plate.
If you’re not sure if it’s your passion or just a passing fad, close your eyes for a moment. Imagine yourself following that passion. Are you happy?
Now imagine a setback. You are being underpaid. You’re slogging off. Working really hard. Are you still happy doing the work you loved so much? Do you wanna quit? Or you will still work harder?
This answer will be your call.
Dreams are often stuck in the maze of life. You have to be bold to snatch them for yourself.
Even when you have decided to follow your dreams, you have to be prepared for setbacks. Those setbacks will shake you, break you and may take you away from your dreams. Just like a storm in the sea drags you away from shore.
You have to fight.
You have to stay.
Either you can give up, or you can show everyone you won’t give up.
You’re not alone, fighting for your dreams. Every moment, every day, someone is fighting for dreams. The fight isn’t a cakewalk. The fight isn’t of a short span.
But if you believe in your dream, what’s there to lose?

At last, I would like to say that no matter what marks you have secured, remember it’s not the end, remember you can still chose what you desire. If you got good marks, if you made your parents proud, congratulations, choose wisely.But if you didn’t, you can still do better.

The battle has just begun.
